JC036 Blog 5

A quieter 24hr period for me but a busy period for Jez! Today ISIS remained firmly on deck and it was time for four mega cores – each of these take about 4 hours to descend to the seabed, get cores and then return to the ship. Once on deck the scientists scurry around them removing the mud for further scrutiny – then it all starts again.

The ISIS lads took the break in ROV operations to work on ISIS and address a number of ideas they have had. Ben worked on ISIS’s deep sea vacuum cleaner for hovering up samples – this is known as a “Suction Sampler”.

Tally and a few others found the punch bag and spent some time beating it up!

A big surprise in tomorrow’s blog……
